Liver’s Job and Candida

It’s not like me to post twice in a day, but I just listened to an interview online and it fitted in with the last post.

The interview was with Dr Mark Merriman, an MD in the States.  He is to be part of the Longevity Conference run by David Wolfe – starts on the 24th Sept.

Anyway, in the first half of the interview Dr Merriman was talking about the phases of Liver Detoxification and the research currently happening there.  I didn’t completely follow it all, but the gist of it was that there are 2 phases of detox in the liver – aptly named Phase 1 and Phase 2.

In Phase 1, toxic intermediaries are created as the first stage of trying to get rid of something yukky.  It involves using anti-oxidants.  In Phase 2, something is added to the Phase 1 intermediary to make it safer for the body to excrete.  This intermediary/toxin is then excreted in the bile, bound with fibre and which allows the toxin to pass through the colon safely.

Now here’s the kicker ….. if you have Dysbiosis, an unbalanced level of bacteria in your gut, like from Candida, these bacteria can cleave the anti-oxidant bound to the toxin away from it, releasing the toxin in the gastrointestinal tract to be re-absorbed into the body.

So, Candida can make your body absorb and carry around more toxins, making the liver work harder and harder to keep your body going.  And where do we tend to store toxins …… body fat!

Here’s the link if you want a listen – it’s in the first half of the interview: Dr Mark Merriman Interview with David Wolfe. – oops that didn’t work, so if you want to hear it, have your email address public in the comments and I’ll forward the email with the link.

Also the Longevity Conference is streaming via Webcast, so click on the link to find out more: Longevity Conference – this link didn’t work either, so comment stands as above.

Coping with Cravings and other Stuff

I met with my Homoeopath, Sally Moore, for a follow-up consult on Thursday.

Consultation with Sally Moore, Homoeopath

In reviewing the last month, it was pretty emotional with lots of tears early on (hence Sally prescribed Pulsatilla for me).  Since then things seem to have leveled out.  I got the impatient, short tempered monthly time, but other than that it felt relatively balanced (what a hoot, calling myself balanced …. there are some who would dispute it!).

During the Liver Cleanse I did however feel a bit tetchy and just wanting to sit down quietly on my own a couple of times – difficult to do when it happens at 7pm with a young family.  But, on one night I did it and let them sort themselves out!  Probably feeling a bit overwhelmed coping with all my own stuff as well as motherhood (and being a wife).

On listening to this story (and the rest of our discussion, including how the itchy bum is going), Sally prescribed:

  • One dose (on Friday) of Sepia 200c
  • 1 dose each day for 5 days of Candida 30c
  • I am to dowse with my pendulum whether Lachesis 200 or Sepia 200 is needed when my mood changes around my period time.
  • Keep up the Agnus Castus 6c on Monday – Friday during the month.

On Friday evening I was knackered and fell asleep on the couch at 7.30pm!  I had 9.5 hours sleep, absolutely sound sleep, feeling like I didn’t even turn over once!  Not even waking for a wee!  I must check if the remedy had a role there.

Weight and Body Measurements as Indicators

I’ve made a decision , in line with Jon Gabriel in The Gabriel Method, not to weigh myself (or that’s what I’m going to try to avoid).  Jon suggests to stay off the scales for the first 6 months, but knowing that my curiosity will get the better of me, I’ll just aim to weigh in a month’s time.

My measurements as of today are:

Neck 37cm  (was 38cm)

Bust 113cm (was 115cm)

Waist 97cm   (was 98cm)

Hips 121cm  (was 124cm)

Upper arm 38cm  (was 40cm)

Upper leg    80cm  (was 82cm)

Cravings and The Gabriel Method

Bit of an observation of the last couple of days ….. I have felt so hungry and so very susceptible to carb and chocolate cravings.  I seriously could have done some damage to chocolate cake, chocolate, pasta and bread in the last 2 days.  Am I getting on top of the Candid and it’s trying desperately not to have its stronghold released over my body!  Who knows!  All I know is this morning I woke up feeling better though.

So, for the record, I had a small heart shaped chocolate that K gave me at Easter (yes, it had stayed in my bag all that time – woo hoo!) and a  mouthful of chocolate cake (a small mouthful, not a Shrek sized one). I figured that if I fought the craving it would become bigger and a negative focus.  Instead I enjoyed what I had and didn’t beat myself up, also making sure to consciously add some vegies to afternoon tea to make sure my body had good nutrition.   This is a point that Jon Gabriel makes – don’t deprive yourself of a craving, just make sure your body still has the good nutrition it needs for the day.  Eventually your cravings will diminish, or so it goes …..

Take 2 on Meditation

Another plus for the last 3 days …. I got up and did 20 minutes of meditation before the family surfaced.  I really have to retrain my mind – too much chatter going on.  Might try focusing on a candle in the next one and see if that helps ……  Baby steps as always!

My Butt … The Geyser!

Saturday, 1st May, 2010

Well, another first down – I had my first Colonic Hydrotherapy.  Boy there’s been a heap of  firsts lately!  I was a wee bit apprehensive to start with (tension in the ol’ butt cheeks), but all was okay.  The macho part of me says “bring it on”.  The mouse part of me says “Hmmm, you sure about this?  Isn’t there another way that doesn’t involve …… well this?”

At 8am this morning I had my first Colonic Hydrotherapy at the Perth Colon Health and Wellness Centre (www.perthcolonhealth.com).  Georgia Sheehan was my therapist and you have to applaud how the Universe works.  I felt comfortable with her instantly (even with my apprehension of the unknown ahead of me), and we discovered common interests and things we’re doing on our life paths (eg.  we’ve both done Reconnective Healing and The Reconnection training, both currently working with the work of Abraham /Esther and Jerry Hicks etc).

Georgia was great at explaining everything in a way that made me feel more at ease.  It was really pretty straightforward and done in a way that was very respectful of privacy.

Colonic Hydrotherapy (Libbe System) – The Nitty Gritty of the Session

In a nutshell, the system I used was called the LIBBE System and is an open, gravity fed colonic system.  What that means is that the water is fed by gravity (not pumped) into your colon via a small tube (about the size of a pencil) inserted a little way into your rectum (only about 2cm / 3/4 inch I guess).

In privacy, I got undressed from the waist down and put on a disposable glove and opened the single use packet of lubrication.  You do the inserting yourself, having lubricated the area and the head of the tube (which is an attachment that is disposable and is only used once) – it’s pretty easy to do.  Unlike the ‘old’ way of doing it (a closed system), where a therapist does all the tube inserting, there is no second tube inserted to take away the waste.  In the LIBBE system, the water / waste flushes out of your body like normal and is taken away via see-through pipes under the bed that you can look at with the aid of a mirror (you can see it on the right hand side of the picture).

You are laying down with your legs resting up on the top of the unit (the raised end on the right hand side of the photo).  I had a privacy sheet and blanket on top of me and once I was comfortable, I pressed a button and Georgia came back in.  Georgia gave me a hot pack to help with the initial cramping type feeling (kind of like when you have diarrhea).  That was really helpful.  She also explained about using the hand held massage unit to help shift / move things along my colon, if needed.

Then, once everything had been explained (specifically what to do to control the water temperature as it cycles between warm and cold – I just had to turn a lever from left to right and back again when the water temperature hit a certain level), I was left to my own devices.  There is a button to push if I wanted Georgia to come in and there is a sign on the control panel that easily reminded me of what to do.

Got to say it was a peculiar feeling initially – you could feel your bowel filling and then had to overcome the mental hurdle of voiding while laying down on the plastic bed (it was cushioned in the upper body region).  Once you’d done it a couple of times …. easy peasy!

The water that comes into you is filtered and then UV treated before being gravity fed into the tube.  The water temperature cycled between warm (to help break things up) and cold (to flush).  Got to admit, I preferred the warm water (big sook that I am!).  By the way, there are fail-safes built into the system to stop the water over-heating – it just shuts down if you aren’t looking and the temperature rises too high.

Stones Come Out!

The bed unit you sit on had an outlet built into the middle of it to take “it” all away and exhaust fans, so there are no smells at all.  You can see the what is coming out of you through clear waste tubes which is strangely a bit compelling to watch!  Bit like a 2 year old on the potty!

Given that I’d recently done the Liver Cleanse with all the Epsom Salts (and this process was the final part of that clearing), my body was pretty well …. flushed.  However, and this is a BIG however, the major thing the colonic cleared out was one tan coloured stone (about the size of a large marble – what we used to call tombola) and about 6 tan coloured stones about the size of a pea.

Bloody unbelievable!  No pain at all in passing them through my body.  I had only been aware of a pressure / mild discomfort in the last day and I described the feeling of what was probably the big stone passing as being like when you eat a lychee (where you squeeze the lychee out through the top of the skin) – well that sort of pressure if that makes sense.  I guess it felt like the stone was being squeezed out, but again, there was no pain at all.

What Are the Different Coloured Stones?

Apparently, the pea green stones that I released yesterday were green coloured gallstones, with the green colour being due to the bile from the liver.  The darker green stones were the oldest and were quite distinct.  The tan coloured stones that I saw today (through the viewing tube) were apparently calcified gallstones released from the gallbladder, containing heavier toxic substances with only a small amount of cholesterol.1

I can’t say that this first time doing a colonic was as relaxing and stress-releasing as I’d read, simply because it was all so new to me.  Also, I was busy learning what to do with the water temperature controls (not that it’s hard, but because you don’t want to get it wrong and have too long on the cold!).

However, I will do it again after the next Liver Cleanse, not only because Andreas Moritz stresses that it needs to be done to remove stones that may need help to be cleared, but because I saw with my own eyes the tan coloured stones come out!

Here Come the Stones …. Time to Flush my Liver

Friday, 30th April, 2010 – Post 1

At 10pm last night I drank the olive oil and freshly squeezed orange / lemon juice concoction (well shaken up).  It went down easier than I thought – it helps to buy good quality cold pressed olive oil I think.

As per the Liver Cleanse instructions I lay down on my back with my head propped up on 2 pillows – that helped as I didn’t have any reflux / regurgitating.

Then the Epsom Salts kicked in – diarrhoea ….. talk about cleaning out my pipes!  It is to be expected and all part of the cleanse.

Note to self:  get more loo paper for the next cleanse!

I settled down to sleep ….

During the night I was a bit unsettled – partly due to having to be aware to sleep on my back or right hand side and partly due to mild nausea.  I woke for the first time at 2.20am (in the middle of the Liver time, from 1-3am, in Kinesiology terms that is) – that fits!

I was up again at 5am and got up for some warm water.  At 6am I had the 3rd glass of Epsom Salts and went back to bed for a half hour.  I just lay there and pictured stones moving through my system.  I could still feel the mild ache on the right hand side of my back.  Got the kids’ breakfast and off to school before the 4th and final Epsom Salts at 8am.

After the 3rd glass I had multiple trips to the toilet, with a greenish liquid (bile mixed in) coming out, with little pea green stones that floated on the surface.  Some were darker green in colour and they were about half the size of a pea.  Since that time it just kept coming and by 10am I had passed 60 small stones, some as big as peas.

I slept for 2 hours after lunch – all ok with the world and my body.

I’m a bit spun out by the stones though ….. who’d have thought?

If you’re wondering why I am doing this, it is because I want to get my body in as healthy a condition as possible to not only help me lose weight, but to also keep me from becoming a pill junkie from chronic illnesses.  I’m not keen to put in my body anything that comes with a list of side-effects where I have other options and so can avoid it.  This journey is more than just weight loss ……

The Actual Liver Cleanse begins …..

Thursday 29th April, 2010 – Post 2

Today was the last day of my Liver Cleanse preparation – no more Malic Acid in water for a while. I was not allowed to eat protein foods, butter or oil today and should avoid sugar, spices, milk, yoghurt, cheese, ham, eggs, nuts, pastries, cold cereals etc.

After a light salad lunch I fasted with water only (from 1.30 pm). That is, until the actual cleanse started at 6pm.

Well, it’s 9pm and I am feeling a bit weary and washed out and have a mild ache on the right hand side of my back. I drank the  3/4 cup Epsom salts (concentration of 4 tablespoons in 24 oz / 710 ml of water) at 6pm and 8pm – pretty bitter, but I just downed it quickly and then brushed my teeth.  No wonder my parents were saying “ugh” when I told them what I had to drink!  Think it brought up memories of when they had to drink it as children.

Emotions started surfacing around the kids’ bedtime – anger and frustration (triggered by an 8 year old whose uniform was left in a crumpled heap at the foot of the bed, together with dirty underwear and clothes from the day). I re-established the ground rules and left the room. It didn’t feel too bad once I was removed from the bedroom.

I felt like I’d had enough though …. just wanted to sit down and do nothing. Difficult to do with a young family.

I managed to sit quietly at about 8.30 pm, spending a bit of time with my eldest child, which was nice and quiet. My stomach was feeling a bit bloated at this stage – getting ready for the explosion from the Epsom Salts!

Inspiration

You may speak your truth, but soothe your words with peace.

Tell your truth as soon as you know it. Yet tell it gently, kindly, and with compassion for the hearer. Someone needs to hear the truth from you … but that person
also needs your deep compassion as you speak it.

Seek to say what needs to be said with softness, and with a wide open heart. Remember, the truth can hurt … but it hurts a lot less if you care how it feels while
saying it.
